Alyssa's Quilt

**Warning**
This post is picture heavy.
My little sister graduated from college May 14th. She now has an Environmental Biology degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She was president of the Green Club.
When asked for colors for a project I wanted to make for her, the answer was clearly, earthy colors...browns, greens, blues, oranges.
Here are the colors that I choose:

*Note: sales lady didn't think I should use the turquoise for the border.

My daughter, Kyana (just up from a nap!) helping to choose squares to sew together.

The finished quilt top, with the blue border. I really, really like how the blue border turned out. I'm glad I didn't second guess my choice.

Kyana helping to straighten the top before basting with pins. She's such a great helper!

Machine stitching with my sewing machine. My wonderful hubby drew the picture and I stitched it. We put an "A" for Alyssa in the center of the flower. We liked how the "A" would look right from the front and the back.

The finished quilt front!

The finished quilt back!

Alyssa at her graduation party with her quilt. The binding was ALMOST done! Yikes! I hand stitched the binding (which was the first time I hadn't just sewn it with the machine. I'm SOLD. I will hand stitch it from now on!

We are very proud of Alyssa and the accomplishments she's made! I enjoyed that it was a pattern that the kids (all 4 of them) could help with.
But, most of all, I enjoyed knowing I was making something that continues the legacy that my grandmother started so many years ago, in the quilts that she made for family.
Those quilts are cherished!

Quilt Top, check

Good afternoon! Here's an update on the quilt.
But first, Holly and I have been teaching a beginner's sewing class for the local homeschooling group, which I'm a part of. Here is my oldest son, working on his 1st Quilt Ever! They are making a strip quilt with all straight stitches.

He's the only boy in the class. Poor thing...

In this picture, I have sewn the blocks into rows. The paper in the corners are numbers so that I could keep the rows in order. It was very helpful. Thanks, Care.

And the finished quilt top. What do you think?

I already have a group of fabric for another quilt ready, but I can't share yet. Shhh, it's a gift.
Have a great week!
