Cakes...Lots of cakes! Part 2

Here's another round of cakes I've made in the last couple years (at least the ones that I have on my computer!)
This one was for Aaron, my oldest, who turned 11 earlier this month. He wanted a Bible cake.
Scooby dooby doo!!

Our home school graduation.

This is the front of the program that I copied. This cake is HUGE! Three layers!

My daughter LOVES Blue's Clues.

A wedding shower for a friend.

This turtle is Michaelangelo!

And a skateboard!!

I hope you've enjoyed this glimpse into my world of cakes! I have fun creating them and seeing my kid's faces as the character they wanted appears in the icing!

Sunday Scripture & Prayer Requests

Psalm 121 (NIV)
A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
**************************************
I've had quite a week...needing to remember that my help comes from the LORD, that He's watching over me. All. The. Time!! Isn't that amazing? To know that our LORD is watching over us, that He will keeps us from all harm, that He cares about all our needs! I just have to remember to give those needs over to Him and let Him take care of them.
Let me know if you have any prayer requests this week. I'm happy to pray with you!
I hope your weekend is great! ~Garilyn

Sleeping and a Sneak Peek

We have been diaper free since the end of July. I've accomplished this at night because I sneak in and get her up to go to the bathroom before I go to bed. We've had a few nighttime accidents, which I've found to be related to either Kyana getting sick or being overly tired. The funny thing is that she hardly ever opens her eyes and always goes to the bathroom for me!
This was taken after lying her back down the other night. All her baby's are named "Two."

And this is a sneak peek of fabric (not a great picture, but it's the only one I took) my son picked out for a pattern that I am testing! Hope I can show you the final result soon!
Have a great weekend!

Ancient??

Here's the story.
Aaron: "Mom, is that Nana's sewing machine?"
Mom: "Yes."
Aaron: "Wow, that's ancient!"

Well, I certainly hope it's not ancient, because if it's ancient, so am I. Leave it to kids to say things that make you laugh. Maybe those laughs will help erase a few years!!
The Kenmore is old, it's metal, and oh so heavy! My mom was inspired by the quilts I was making and how easy they were. So, we dusted off the metal, cleaned out the lint, and got some new thread. And we went shopping for fabric. Yippee!

We then set out to cut, chain piece, and put it all together. A couple week's ago, we finished up the border, sandwiched it, quilted it, and started on the binding.

All that's left is hand stitching the binding!!
We should have taken the pictures outside, these don't do justice to the bright purples and greens.

Have a great day!

Sunday Scripture & Prayer Requests

Psalm 20:4-5 (New International Version)

4 May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.

5 We will shout for joy when you are victorious
and will lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the LORD grant all your requests.

Several years ago, I held tightly to this verse. You see, I had 3 sons, whom I love dearly. But I really wanted a daughter. My oldest son had been praying for well over a year for God to give him a sister. It took a little longer than we had anticipated, but God granted that prayer! We got our daughter and my sons got their sister. They shower her will love and I'm sure as she gets older all the boys will all know that she has older brothers watching over her!

We praise God for answered prayer. It may not be in our timing or exactly the way we would like it to be, but God's ways are best.

Do you have any prayer requests that you would like to share, so that I may join you in praying? It can even be as simple as stating it as unspoken...God knows your heart and your need.

May you all have a blessed and wonderful Labor Day!

Twirly Whirly Skirt and a Cute Model

This is the Annabeth Girly Skirt from Noodles & Milk! I thoroughly enjoyed making this skirt and seeing the fullness and twirl-ability of it as I put it together. The pattern was well written with great pictures and sewing tips.
Kyana loved how much it twirled. Of course, I'm biased but I thought she was a great model and has a perfect smile!

It's kind of hard to tell in the picture, but the body of the skirt is cream color with tiny pink flowers and green leaves and vines. The bottom ruffle is a coordinating green with cream polka dots.
